Pet dog in Odisha fends off cobra, saving the life of his master & family

It is said that a dog is a man's best and most faithful friend. This was proven true when Shankar Prasad Tripathy and his family were saved from the venomous fangs of a deadly cobra by their pet dog, whom they fondly call "Doggy". According to reports, the pariah dog was quick to alert the family of the presence of an intruder and fought the snake for half-an-hour before killing it.

'Doggy' to the rescue..!!

In a peaceful town of Jeypore in Koraput, Shankar Prasad Tripathy was enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon when he heard Doggy barking. When the family came out, they saw their pet dog in the middle of a fierce battle. Upon realising that a foreign intruder was trying to slither its way inside the house, Doggy confronted the would-be intruder, which turned out to be a giant cobra, and started barking and fighting with it.

Intense Fight!

Alerted by the barking and the commotion, Shankar Prasad and his family came outside to investigate. What they found was the site of an epic battle between Doggy and a giant cobra who was barking and pouncing on the venomous snake. Tripathy himself said that he was momentarily shocked by the sight that he described as 'Incridible" and was stunned for the first few minutes of the battle.
The intense fight lasted for roughly 30 minutes before the dog managed to kill the cobra and tear it into two pieces. During the fight, Tripathy said that he was worried about Doggy and feared that the snake might bite him and he would die. However, the dog seemed fine and was doing okay the next morning as well. During the fight, the dog pounced and avoided every attempt made by the snake to bit him. This is a story of a miraculous escape!

Thankfully the only life lost in this ordeal was that of the snake, while both the family of six and the dog are safe and sound.

This heroic story is not an isolated one. Last week in a similar incident that occurred on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, a dog called "Laden" saved his master's two grandchildren from a snake in a similar fashion.
