PM Modi: 'Everyone should contribute to enrich discussions in Parliament'

PM Modi on Monday stated that the winter session of the Parliament is an important one and all lawmakers should contribute to enriching the discussions

Ahead of the start of the winter sessions of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday stated, "The winter session of the Parliament is an important one and all lawmakers should contribute to enriching the discussions'. He further stated that "this is the last Parliament session of 2019. It is very important because this is the 250th session of the Rajya Sabha. During this session, on November 26, we will observe Constitution Day - when our Constitution completes its 70 years." The winter session commenced on Monday, November 18 and will end on December 13. 

On the importance of "frank discussions"

Speaking about the need to have frank discussions and enriching them, Prime Minister Narendra Modi further stated that it is important to have quality debates. He added that "there should be a dialogue and discussions in the Parliament." PM Modi further added that the Parliament sessions are a success because of the support from all the Members of Parliament (MPs).

To introduce Personal Data Protection Bill 

According to reports, the Winter Parliament session will likely see the opposition parties raising the issues of their concerns. Meanwhile, the BJP is expected to take forward its legislative agenda during the session and several bills. Further reports stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party is also expected to introduce the Personal Data Protection Bill. The bill deals with the handling and processing of consumer data by corporate entities while introducing restrictions and penalties.

To propose regularising unauthorised colonies in Delhi

According to reports, another bill that is expected to be taken up by the Parliament during the sessions is the regularising of the 1,728 unauthorised colonies in the National capital. According to sources, the Government will also bring up a bill to replace taxation laws (Amendment) Ordinance 2019 on corporate rate cuts.

Winter session of Parliament

The winter session of the Parliament is beginning on November 18 and will undertake almost 35 legislations and will have 20 sittings. The session, which will end on December 13, will see a total of 20 sittings. Currently, there are 43 bills pending in Parliament. Of these, 12 Bills are listed for consideration and passing and seven are listed for withdrawal. Twenty-seven bills are listed for introduction, consideration, and passing. Of the various bills, two of the most contentious bills which the Modi government eyes to pass in this session is the National River Ganga Bill 2019 and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019
