Prime Minister Narendra Modi met David Malpass, President of World Bank on Saturday, October 26 in Delhi. Before meeting the Prime Minister, David Malpass led a delegation to a meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at North Block. Prime Minister's Office shared the picture of PM Modi with David Malpass on Twitter.

First visit to India since assuming leadership

President of World Bank reached New Delhi on Friday and is on a four-day visit to India from October 25 to October 28. It is his first trip to India since assuming the leadership in April this year. During his visit, Malpass will focus on understanding the emerging priorities of the Indian government in its new term as it strives to boost growth and meet the aspirations of its people and on developing the World Bank Group’s partnership with India.

Nirmala Sitharaman congratulates Secretary Industry Rajiv Kumar

After India jumped 14 spaces and ranked 63rd in the ease of ‘Doing Business’ report by the World Bank, Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a press briefing on Thursday, October 24, and informed that cities of Kolkata and Bengaluru will also be included in the report’s survey. Apart from this she also congratulated the Secretary Industry Rajiv Kumar for his contribution in making India rank higher in the report. The ease of doing business report released by the World Bank shows that India has massively improved in the rankings from the year 2014 when it was on the 142nd position.

India among the top 10 performers on the list for the third time in a row

India jumped 14 places to the 63rd position on the World Bank's ease of doing business ranking released on Thursday, riding high on the government's flagship 'Make in India' scheme and other reforms attracting foreign investment. The country also figured among the top 10 performers on the list for the third time in a row. The rankings come at a time when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and various rating agencies have slashed the country's growth forecasts amid a slowdown in the global economy.

Last year, India jumped 23 places to 77th position

India was ranked 142nd among 190 nations when Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014. Four years of reform pushed up India's rank to 100th in World Bank's 'Doing Business' 2018 report. It was 130th in 2017 when it was ranked lower than Iran and Uganda. Last year, the country jumped 23 places to the 77th position on the back of reforms related to insolvency, taxation and other areas.
