The scenic seaport of Mahabalipuram

Situated in Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram is an old seaport town. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it has a rich history. Mahabalipuram was the capital city of the Pallavas around the 6th century. Incidentally, it served as a gateway for import and export of goods between South India and China in the 7th century. In his remarks at the delegation-level talks with China, PM Modi indirectly referred to this connection, by highlighting the importance of Tamil Nadu in the shaping of cultural and economic ties between the two countries.
