The rationale behind the commemoration

The Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year to commemorate the valour of the police forces all over India. This is linked to a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol falling victim to an ambush by the Chinese army on October 21, 1959. This incident took place at Hot Spring in Ladakh in which 10 CRPF personnel lost their lives. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his gratitude to the police on behalf of all countrymen.
