PM Modi says, 'Bhutan's message to humanity is happiness', while addressing students at Royal University

Thanking Bhutan for the enthusiastic welcome, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday addressed the students at the Royal University of Bhutan. The history, culture and spiritual traditions have created unique and deep bonds between the people of India and Bhutan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while addressing them. Stating that the country has understood the spirit of harmony, togetherness, and compassion, the PM Modi voiced, "In any part of the world, if we ask the question what do you associate with Bhutan, the answer will be the concept of Gross National Happiness."

He then went on to say that Bhutan's message to humanity is happiness and that if people are happy, there will be harmony. "Happiness, which shall prevail over mindless hate. If people are happy, there will be harmony. Where there is harmony, there will be peace", he said. 

meanwhile, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched RuPay Card in Bhutan by making a purchase at Simtokha Dzong.A total of five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) was signed between India and Bhutan in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering here.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar in a tweet said Simtoka Dzong, built-in 1629 by Shabdrung Namgyal, functions as a monastic and administrative center and is one of the oldest dzongs in Bhutan. Today, for the first time ever, the historical monument is the venue where projects inauguration ceremony and MoUs exchange will take place," Kumar said in a tweet.

PM Modi's visit to Bhutan

In his departure statement issued in New Delhi on Friday, the Prime Minister said his visit to the Himalayan nation in the beginning of the current term reflects the high importance his government attaches to New Delhi's relations with Bhutan-- a "trusted friend and neighbour".

During the visit, PM Modi would hold talks with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his Bhutanese counterpart on the entire gamut of bilateral relations. Prime Minister Modi will also address young Bhutanese students at the prestigious Royal University of Bhutan.
