PM Modi's UNGA speech: What to expect from India at the event

PM Modi is all set to make his speech at the 74th United Nations General Assembly. Here are a few speculated things that he could say today to make an impact.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to make his speech at the 74th United Nations General Assembly. While he has expressed his vision and mission already through various platforms, today he is most likely to talk about India's contribution.

PM could talk about various schemes today

Sources say that among other subjects, the PM's focus could be on sustainable development and sustaining peace. PM Modi could be highlighting India's commitment to the United Nations' sustainable development goal by talking about the initiatives taken and the future course of action. He might stress on schemes which provide the essential care to Indian citizens. For example, Poshan Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat, Kaushal Vikas Yojna and Ujjwala Yojna have been all launched with a goal to contribute to the overall development of the society.

These schemes have been designed to not only take care of the immediate needs of the people, say for example food, but to also train them to get jobs with distinct skill sets. The PM could stress on why such a model is important for the developing world.  Another area which Prime Minister could be speaking on is peacebuilding and sustaining peace.

India might stress on peace and stability

India might stress on a long term strategy towards peace and stability. It could emphasize that while more efforts are required to achieve lasting peace, more attention is required towards the causes of conflicts too. Prime minister may address prevention of conflict.

India has been a member of the UN Peacekeeping force. Since 1950, the country has taken part in several missions across the globe. In the last seventy years, India has provided more than two hundred thousand military and police officers. India has served in forty-nine of the seventy-one peacekeeping missions across the globe. Currently, there are nearly seven thousand peacekeeping forces from India working in different parts of the world including the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.

India is also the first country which contributed to the Trust fund on sexual exploitation and abuse. Many Indians have lost their lives during the mission and with more than a hundred sixty peacekeepers paying the ultimate price while serving, India has lost more peacekeepers than any other member state.
