Pondy reports 20 new COVID-19 cases

The Union Territory of Puducherry logged 20 new cases of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Tuesday, taking the infection count to 39,488.

The Union Territory of Puducherry logged 20 new cases of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Tuesday, taking the infection count to 39,488.

No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.

He said there were 213 active cases and added that 43 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours after recovery, taking the total recoveries to 38,617, while fatalities remained at 658.

He said the fatality and recovery rates were at 1.67 per cent and 97.79 per cent respectively. A total of 2,082 samples were examined in the last 24 hours.

Mohan Kumar said 6.09 lakh samples were examined so far of which 5.66 lakh were found negative. Puducherry region accounted for 10 out of the 20 fresh cases while Karaikal and Mahe had five new cases each. The director said a total of 5,920 health care workers and 323 frontline workers have been vaccinated against COVID- 19.
