1,518 Puducherry, May 30 (PTI) The union territory of Puducherry added 930 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 taking the overall caseload to 1,03,826, a senior official of Department of Health and Family Welfare Services said on Sunday.

Twenty-one more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours pushing the toll to 1,518, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services S Mohan Kumar said.

Twelve of the deceased were women, he said, adding 15 of the victims hailed from Puducherry, followed by Karaikal (3), Yanam (2) and Mahe (1).

The 930 new cases were identified at the end of the examination of 8,437 samples during the last 24 hours, the Health Department Director said.

While the Puducherry region accounted for 743 of the 930 new cases, Karaikal reported 143, followed by Yanam (24) and Mahe (20).

The overall infection tally rose to 1,03,826 with the addition of the 930 new cases.

The test positivity rate was 11.02 per cent.

The number of active cases in the union territory stood at 12,167 with 10,532 patients in home isolation and the remaining 1,635 in hospitals.

He said 1,895 patients recovered and were discharged during the last 24 hours.

The fatality and recovery rates were 1.46 per cent and 86.82 per cent respectively.

The Health department Director said that so far 1.04 lakh samples were tested and it was found that 9.03 lakh of them were negative.

The number of active cases stood at 12,167, he added.

Mohan Kumar said that 90,141 patients had recovered and were discharged so far.

He said 34,681 healthcare workers and 21,673 frontline workers have been inoculated so far and 1,53,623 people coming under the category of either senior citizens (sixty years and above) or those above 45 years with comorbidities have been vaccinated since May 1, the Director said.PTI Cor SS PTI PTI
