Pune Wall Collapse: Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao extends condolences to the families of deceased

In the aftermath of the Kondhwa wall collapse in Pune that claimed the lives of 15 people and injured two others, Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. 

The portion of the compound wall of a residential complex near the Talab Masjid collapsed and led to the death of innocent workers, including women and children who were residing in the makeshift shanties at the construction site.

Governor Vidyasagar Rao expressed his sadness saying:

"I was deeply saddened to know about the death of innocent workers, including women and children in the incident of collapse of a compound wall of a residential complex in Pune,"

The Governor further extended his condolences and said that he wished for a speedy recovery of those injured:

"Every life lost in the incident was precious. My heart goes out to the kin of all those who lost their loved ones, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," 

Earlier the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also took to Twitter to express his condolences to the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister also ordered an in-depth inquiry into the whole issue. Here's what he said in his tweet:

"Extremely saddened to know about loss of lives in the Kondhwa, Pune wall collapse incident. My deepest condolences to the families and praying for a speedy recovery of the injured. Directed Pune Collector to conduct an in-depth enquiry", he tweeted.

In addition, the Chief Minister also cited that the mishap was serious and he assured that it will be taken seriously. According to the Chief Minister, an FIR has also been filed and a thorough investigation will be carried, he said. Fadnavis also mentioned that a committee has been formed to inquire if the land alloted was legal. 

"A compensation of Rs 5 lakhs will be given to the kin of the deceased. Arrangements will also be made for sending the bodies of the workers to their respective hometowns." the Chief Minister added.

The incident took place around 1:45 am on Friday night in the Kondhwa area as per police officials. Several parts of Maharashtra are witnessing heavy rainfall since Friday. Police, fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, the police said.
