Rajnath Singh approves writing on Indian borders, says it's important

Rajnath Singh, India's Defence Minister, has given his approval for initiating the work of writing the history of India's borders on September 18. According to reports, the statement comes after the Minister held a meeting on September 17, with eminent experts of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Directorate General of Archives (DGA), and officials of Home Affairs, External Affairs and Defence ministries.

Writing on Indian borders- important 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the meeting emphasized the importance of writing about the Indian borders. According to him, writing about them will provide a good understanding of the general public, which is extremely necessary. According to reports, he has also welcomed suggestions about the initiative. He has further directed officials to consult experts for the action plan that is required to write about Indian borders. According to reports, the first-of-its-kind project is expected to complete within two years. Taking it to Twitter, the Defence Minister's office has tweeted about the project.

India and its borders

India shares its land borders with seven countries across the world. This includes Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. Further, India shares its maritime borders with Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia. India's border with Pakistan- the Line of Control (LOC) is considered fragile as there are several incidences of cross-border infiltration and ceasefire violations. On the other hand, Line of Actual Control (LAC) divides India and China.
