Russia President Vladimir Putin confirms to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation with India; condemns terror attack in Pulwama by Pak-backed JeM

The global community stood strong alongside India to condemn the cowardly attack on the CRPF battalion resulting in the martyrdom of 37 jawans.

The global community stood strong alongside India to condemn the cowardly attack on the CRPF battalion resulting in the martyrdom of 37 jawans.  

Along with countries across geographies, Russia President Vladimir Putin condemned the "brutal crime" perpetrated by Pakistan backed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. The Russian President assured its longstanding bilateral partner, India their readiness to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation. 

The letter addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi by Vladimir Putin read: 

Please accept my most sincere condolences in connection with the death of Indian law enforcement officers as a result of the terrorist act in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. We strongly condemn this brutal crime. Perpetrators and sponsors of this attack should be punished.  I would like to confirm the readiness for the further strengthening of counter-terrorism cooperation with our Indian partners. Russia shares the grief of the friendly people of India and hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India denounced the terror attack saying, "We denounce terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and reiterate the need to combat these inhuman acts with a decisive and collective response without any double standards."

Along with Russia, the United States, Israel, Australia, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Nepal and countries across the globe have extended their condemnation to the terror attack. 

The following was the statement released by the CRPF which details about the attack:

  • The convoy started from Jammu around 4 am. It was an Up Convoy to Srinagar. 
  • 70 vehicles were in this convoy with 2,500 CRPF personnel. 
  • Road opening party had cleared the route. 
  • The convoy had last checked in at Anantnag. 
  • A civilian car was laden with IED.
