S. Jaishankar meets leaders at G4 meeting, calls it 'very purposeful'

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met his counterparts from Brazil, Germany, and Japan on Thursday at the G4 meeting in New York on Thursday. The Minister in a tweet said that the meeting was purposeful and important for the United Nations. 

What is G4?

The G4 nations comprise of India, Germany, Japan, and Brazil. These countries support each other bids for permanent seats at the United Nations. Each of these four countries has figured among the elected non-permanent members of the council since the UN's establishment.

He lashes out at Pakistan

Earlier today, addressing the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) programme, S.Jaishankar lashed out at Pakistan and accused Pakistan of using terrorism deliberately against India. "You have terrorism in different parts of the world, but there is no part of the world where a country uses it consciously and deliberately as a large scale industry against its neighbour," He further added, "Issue is not whether to talk or not, everybody wants to talk to their neighbour. The issue is how do I talk to a country that is conducting terrorism and follows a policy of implausible deniability."

Meeting Gulf Cooperation Council

The External Affairs Minister also held a meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council, FM of Oman Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of UAE for strengthening ties.

Bilateral talks with 11 Ministers

Jaishankar also held bilateral talks with 11 of his counterparts on Wednesday. "External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had 11 bilateral meetings with Iran, Bulgaria, Turkey, Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, UAE and others. He also had a meeting with US Special Envoy on Afghanistan," the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar, said at a press briefing in New York.
