Seeking an explanation, EC issues a notice to Sadhvi Pragya for her remarks over Babri demolition

Hours after BJP candidate from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is also accused in Malegaon blast case gave a controversial statement about demolishing the Babri Masjid, the Bhopal district election officer has issued a notice to her, reported the news agency ANI

The district officer has given her one-day time to respond and explain her controversial remark on the issue.

In a press briefing on Sunday, Sadhvi Pragya had said that she was present in the group that allegedly demolished the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. She further added that she is not denying of the charges.

Sadhvi Pragya said: "I was present there (Ayodhya). I had broken the structure. I had demolished the structure. I will go there again. I will help in the construction of our Ram Temple. It is not a controversial issue. Ram Temple was there and I will help in constructing a magnificent temple of Lord Ram."

She further said that 'nobody can stop her from constructing the temple.'

"I don't care what others say. I said what I had to say. Ram Temple will be constructed. Why will I deny the charges. I was present there. I demolished it. Nobody can stop us from constructing the temple. He is my Ram ji... Lord Ram is the nation and nation is Lord Ram. Temple will be there," said Thakur.

On Saturday, she was also issued a notice by the EC over her remarks on 26/11 terror attack martyr Hemant Karkare. 

"We took suo motu cognisance of the statement and sought a report from the assistant returning officer (ARO) on the matter. We got the report this morning and we are going to issue notices, which are returnable within 24 hours, to the organiser of the programme and the person who made the statement," District Election Officer and Bhopal Collector Sudam Khade told news agency PTI.
