Republic TV has learnt that Congress president Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra had planned to travel abroad ahead of his court hearing in the money laundering case in which he is being probed.
A day after the 2019 Lok Sabha election exit polls projected that the Congress would suffer a heavy defeat, Robert Vadra had filed an application seeking permission to travel abroad. However, he insisted on keeping his travel plans a secret, alleging a threat to his life. Vadra submitted his travel itinerary to the court in a sealed envelope, Republic TV has learnt.
Suspecting that Vadra could influence witnesses in the money-laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate has been opposing his anticipatory bail plea in the matter. The ED has also told the Delhi High Court that while Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi's husband has joined the probe, he has not been cooperating with the investigative agency.
Meanwhile, a single-judge bench of Justice Chandershekar will hear the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) petition seeking to set aside a trial court's order granting anticipatory bail to Vadra in connection with a money laundering case against him, on May 27. Claiming that Vadra has been evasive during the investigation, the probe agency on Friday pushed for custodial interrogation through its plea.
During the hearing, the ED will also be highlighting the sensational sting operation that Republic Media Network's SIT conducted on close aides of Robert Vadra - brothers Mahesh Nagar and Lalit Nagar. During the sting operation, both brothers boasted about their closeness to the Vadra-Gandhi family. On the sting camera, Mahesh Nagar termed his relations with the Vadras as “family relations”, while Lalit Nagar said that he “kept meeting” Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra because he was “very close to them”
It is also suspected by the ED that if granted bail, Vadra could attempt to contact and influence the Nagar brothers who spilled the beans regarding his association with him and the land deals struck by him.
