"Serious responsibility, will do my best": Senior advocate Sriram Panchu gives first reaction on appointment to top court-monitored Ayodhya mediation panel

Responding to his appointment in the Ayodhya mediation panel, senior advocate and mediator Sriram Panchu stated that it is a very serious responsibility and he will try to do his best to perform his duty.

The Supreme Court on Friday pronounced the order for mediation to settle the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, appointing a three-member panel headed by Justice (Retd) FM Kalifulla, including spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and senior advocate Sriram Panchu. The top court has given eight weeks to the newly appointed panel to arrive at a conclusion in the Ayodhya case.  It has to give a status report at the end of four weeks. 

Responding to his appointment in the Ayodhya mediation panel, senior advocate and mediator Sriram Panchu stated that it is a very serious responsibility and he will try to do his best to perform his duty. 

"It is a very serious responsibility given to me by the honourable Supreme Court. I will do my best," he said while speaking over the development.

The five-judge Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi during announcing the order stated that the mediation will take place in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad. The mediation process is to take place in-camera.

Earlier in the day, responding to be appointed as the chairman of the three-member panel of mediators, Justice (Retd) Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla stated that if the five-judge bench has appointed him as the head in mediation in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute, then he will take every effort to resolve the issue by using cordial measures.

"I understand that Supreme Court has appointed mediation committee headed by me. I am yet to receive the order copy. As of now, I can only say that if the committee has been constituted we will take every effort to resolve the issue amicably," he said while speaking to reporters in the matter.
