In a shameful comment taking the political discourse to a new low, Madhya Pradesh's Public Works and Environment Minister Sajjan Singh Verma on Sunday said that the BJP makes Hema Malini 'dance to gain votes'

"It is BJP's misfortune that in their party they only have scarred faces and only faces that people dislike, so what can we do? They have only Hema Malini whom they keep asking to perform classical dance in various places and use that to garner votes," Verma said.

He was responding to the media on BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya's sexist comment over Priyanka Gandhi's induction into Congress.

Vijayvargiya on Saturday had said it was fielding "chocolaty" faces in Lok Sabha polls as it has a dearth of strong leaders.

"The Congress does not have strong leaders to field in the next Lok Sabha elections. For this reason, it wants to fight polls through these chocolaty faces," he said.

Vijay Vijayvargiya's comments came amid a controversy where a senior BJP leader and Bihar Minister Vinod Narain Jha made a remark that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has no other quality except being "very beautiful" and the Congress should remember that beauty does not garner votes.

The BJP leader from Bihar had sparked controversy by making a sexist comment against newly inducted Uttar Pradesh General Secretary of the Congress Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The leader in question, Vinod Narayan Jha, who is also a minister in the Bihar cabinet, said that Congress' appointment of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was to garner for votes using beautiful faces.

"Even today, I agree that the Congress is being delusional. Using beautiful faces, they (Congress) cannot ask for votes from the people. And if they think like that - Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is beautiful and Congress will win seats using her beauty, they are not thinking straight. India's democracy is mature and such a decision is not good for our democracy," Vinod Narayan Jha said.
