Sunny Deol skips son's event to visit Gurdaspur blast site

BJP MP Sunny Deol visited the blast site in Batala district of Gurdaspur where the blast at a firecracker factory killed 23 people and left 27 injured

BJP MP Sunny Deol on Thursday arrived at the blast site in Batala district of his constituency Gurdaspur, a day after as many as 23 people were killed and 27 suffered injuries in the blast at a firecracker factory. He also met the people who were injured in the fire. As per news agency PTI, the actor-filmmaker turned politician Sunny Deol skipped the trailer launch event of his son Karan Deol's debut film "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas" to visit the blast site. The explosion took place on Wednesday at the firecracker factory amid homes and shops in the area. The injured were immediately moved to the civil hospital in the area, while seven severely injured were referred to the Amritsar medical college. As per Batala Senior Superintendent of Police Opinderjit Singh, the factory was working illegally. 

Punjab CM orders magisterial inquiry

Punjab government on Wednesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the blast. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed his grief at the incident. The Punjab Government also announced Rs 2 lakh for the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for the injured. Shortly after the reports of the blast, Gurdaspur MP Sunny Deol took to Twitter and expressed sadness over the incident. Punjab's Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa also met the injured at a local hospital on Wednesday night.

PM Modi expresses anguish over tragedy

PM Modi took to Twitter on Thursday to extend condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives in the blast at a firecracker factory in Punjab's Gurdaspur. Stating that he is deeply anguished over the incident, PM Modi asserted that the agencies are working on the rescue operation at the site.
