'Tail tip' nearly causes tragedy for Dammam-Kozhikode Air India flight, all 180 passengers safe

In yet another close shave involving an Air India airplane malfunction, the air carrier's Dammam-Kozhikode bound flight with 180 passengers onboard suffered 'tail tip' at Kozhikode airport during landing after its tail touched down the runway. All passengers are reported to be safe and the aircraft has also not reported any damage.

Close Shave At Mangalore Airport As Air India Flight Overshoots Runway, Gets Stuck In Run-off Grass

Earlier on Sunday, a tragedy was averted at the Mangalore international airport as an Air India flight overshot the runway and was stopped just in time. All operations at the airport currently had been shut down. The flight was coming in from Dubai and had 183 passengers on board. No injuries had been reported and all passengers were deboarded and the plane was towed away later.

Air India Express Spokesperson has said that all passengers are safe and the aircraft is being checked by the engineers. The spokesperson added that an internal investigation has been ordered and that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident.

US-bound Air India Makes Precautionary Landing At Stansted Airport

Previously on June 27, the national air carrier's  United States-bound flight from Mumbai made a precautionary landing at London's Stansted Airport after a bomb scare.

The landing which occurred as a result of a bomb scare forced the Royal Air Force (RAF) to scramble its fighter jets to escort the flight. The Typhoon jets were called in to escort Flight AI 191 at around 09.50 am local time. However, the bomb scare turned out to be a hoax.

All 327 passengers had been deplaned and the Boeing 777-300ER plane remains grounded at the Stansted Airport, an Air India spokesperson said. The passengers were temporarily halted in the airport premises.

In a major business decision, the Centre, on Thursday, had decided to go ahead with the disinvestment of the National carrier Air India, as announced by Union Minister for  Civil Aviation (Independent charge) Hardeep Singh Puri saying that this decision was recommended by the government-appointed Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM).

Previously in 2018, AISAM had earlier decided to sell 76 per cent in Air India and the buyer was required to take over Rs 24,000 crore debt of the carrier along with over Rs 8,000 crore of liabilities. However, the stake sale failed to attract any bidder when the auction process completed on May 31, 2018.
