In yet another unprecendented move, Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday has extended support to an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi suggested the citizens to learn one word a day in any Indian language. Taking to Twitter, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor welcomed the "departure from Hindi dominance" and said that he would take up the #LanguageChallenge. In response to PM Modi's initiative, Shashi Tharoor said that he will tweet a word daily in three languages - English, Hindi and Malayalam - starting with the word "pluralism".

Earlier on Friday, while addressing an event, PM Modi emphasised on the need to bridge the language barrier and bring different cultures together. PM Modi appealed the media to publish one word in 10 to 12 different languages spoken across the country. The Prime Minister also said that a person can learn over 300 new words in different languages in one year.

"Today, I have a humble suggestion. Can we use the power of language to unite? Can media play the role of a bridge and bring people speaking different languages closer? We can simply start with publishing one word in 10-12 different languages spoken across the country," he said while addressing the event.

Congress leaders praise PM Modi

Shashi Tharoor recently heaped praises for PM Modi, after his party leader Jairam Ramesh hailed the Prime Minister's developmental works. While the Congress party had expressed resentment over Tharoor's remarks for PM Modi, the Lok Sabha MP has defended his statements. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mullappally Ramachandran had also sent a notice to Tharoor demanding an explanation for his praise for PM Modi. However, the KPCC decided not to take action against the Congress leader, saying that they found his explanation in the matter "satisfactory".
