Unnao rape survivor's accident: CBI registers FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others

In a major development in the Unnao rape survivor accident probe, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday has registered an FIR against suspended-BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others in connection with the accident. Furthermore, the CBI has also registered a case against 20 unknown persons under criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder & criminal intimidation in the matter.

Centre hands over case to CBI

On Tuesday, the Centre handed over the probe of the road accident in which the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer were critically injured and her two aunts killed to the CBI. The case was handed over to the agency by the Department of Personnel and Training to probe "abetment and conspiracies" into the accident. The Uttar Pradesh Police also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the road accident.

On Sunday, the vehicle in which the Unnao rape survivor, her family, and lawyer were traveling, was hit by an overspeeding truck in Rae Bareli. In the accident, her two aunts were killed and she and the lawyer suffered critical injuries. The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday filed a murder case against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and nine others after the rape survivor's family filed a complaint, alleging "conspiracy" behind the accident. Later it was found that the truck, which was used for the accident and whose number plates was blackened, belonged to SP leader Nandu Pal.

Chaos in Parliament

Massive echoes for the case were in Parliament on Tuesday with Opposition calling for the action against the MLA by the ruling BJP party. Suspended-BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger is the main accused in the Unnao rape case.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal on Tuesday wrote to BJP National Working President JP Nadda, demanding the cancellation of the membership of Kuldeep Senger, the party's MLA from Uttar Pradesh. She also called for his removal as an MLA from the UP assembly.
