UP: Ahead of Ayodhya verdict 8 jails to be set up in Ambedkar Nagar

Prior to the expected Supreme Court’s verdict in the highly-sensitive Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid verdict, the government of Uttar Pradesh has sought to set up eight temporary jails in different colleges in Ambedkar Nagar. Through a letter, the District School Inspector of Ambedkar Nagar has directed the heads of three colleges in Akbarpur, and one each in Tanda, Jalalpur, Jaitpur, Bhiti, and Allapur to provide amenities and the buildings to the police station heads. Security arrangements have also tightened and Section 144 has already been implemented in Ayodhya as precautionary measures.

'Elaborate deployment of forces'

In light of the verdict in the case, Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Tiwari said on Wednesday that security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in the temple town. Elaborate deployment of forces and confidence-building measures has been ensured to maintain law and order in the district. While speaking to news agency ANI, the SSP stated, "Elaborate deployment of forces, intelligence network and confidence-building measures are in place. We have launched a mobile application connecting 16,000 volunteers in 1,600 villages, 10 volunteers each. We are also actively combating rumours on social media." Security has been tightened in Ayodhya district as the top court is expected to pronounce its verdict in the decades-long Ayodhya land case before November 17, when Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi demits office.

Peace and Harmony 

The members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday took a call to approach leaders across the political spectrum in its effort to promote harmony. RSS leader who is well versed with the meeting stated that the functionaries assigned for the job would contact influential leaders of the Congress, SP, and Left parties and others to appeal to them to maintain peace and harmony, regardless of the judicial outcome and to watch out against any attempts at provocation. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani in an interview with Republic TV stated, "Whatever be the verdict, peace should be maintained in the country after that."

SC reserved its verdict 

The Supreme Court on October 16, reserved the verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute case. The bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, and comprising of SC judges Justices S.A. Bobde, D.Y. Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan, S. Abdul Nazeer reserved the verdict after a marathon day-to-day hearing in the case.
