The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered a case of fraud after an Amazon customer here alleged that he got a second-hand Sony phone delivered to him instead of a new Apple iPhone that he had ordered, a police official said on Sunday.

Amazon India, however, said it is investigating the matter on its end and assured a speedy resolution.

"I had ordered an Apple iPhone XR and made an advance payment of Rs 58,410 on Amazon website on August 3 in the name of my father. The next day the Amazon delivery boy brought a package which had a Sony Xperia phone inside an Apple cover. The phone was old and used. I immediately called up Amazon customer care and was assured that they will resolve the issue by August 10," complainant Alok Singh claimed.

"As a customer-centric company, we take great care in the safe delivery of all our customer packages. We are investigating this incident and will support the customer with a speedy resolution," an Amazon India spokesperson told press.

Earlier in July, in a massive goof-up Amazon sold camera equipment worth Rs. 9 lakh for just Rs 6500. The mishap took place on Prime Day, a day closely observed by online buyers whereby they are able to buy their liked goods at affordable prices. This year Amazon had held the Prime Day on July, 15 and 16, worldwide. However this year their best deal was probably a result of a major goof-up which led to some photography enthusiasts to buy high-end camera gear that originally priced at approximately Rs 9 lakh for just Rs 6,500.

After the buyers got wind of the blunder,  Amazon was flooded with people buying the camera products. The gears were from high-end camera brands including Sony, Fujifilm, and Canon. Though the deals were available only briefly, it was enough time for a large number of enthusiasts to purchase the items.
