Ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, Border Security Force (BSF) Jawans performed yoga in Kupwara sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a video taken by one of the soldiers, a team of BSF Jawans are seen performing different asanas. A senior officer can be seen leading the soldiers.
On Wednesday, another team of BSF performed several yoga asanas near the Border Outpost (BOP) on the banks of river Brahmaputra near Takkamari, Assam. The BSF performs some of the most difficult duties and border management. Hence, to keep up with such relentless work and to stay fit amidst challenging terrains, yoga can also prove helpful. In Assam, there are over 17 BOPs in Takkamari where the BSF survives without amenities like electricity, road connectivity and medical facilities. In monsoon, the water level in Bhramaputra River rises, forcing the BSF to shift its BOPs.
The lead-up to the fifth Yoga day has witnessed Yoga being proliferated to some of the most extreme places in the world, particularly in the Himalayas.
Earlier, a video had been accessed wherein Indo-Tibetan Border Personnel (ITBP) were seen performing Yoga on a vast frozen plain:
In addition, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu too organised a yoga event on Sunday to celebrate the fifth International Day of Yoga at Nepal's Thyangboche - the gateway to Mount Everest. The main objective of the programme was to highlight the importance of yoga in daily life and to bring peace and harmony across the nations and among people, a press statement issued by the Embassy said.
The Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puriand locals joined in to perform yoga:
A large number of people, including Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, locals, members of various women and youth organisations, officers of the Sagarmatha National Park and foreign tourists, participated in the event, it said. The Prime Minister has been regularly tweeting asana videos since June 5 in the run-up to the International Yoga Day, which was started after Modi, in 2014, suggested it in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
