Tejashwi Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, lashed out at the governance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reacting to a viral video making rounds on social media. In the video, Pintu Tiwari, a double-murder convict is seen having a birthday bash in Bihar's Sitamarhi jail. In the video clip, he is seen cutting a cake as his fellow inmates sing 'happy birthday'. He is also seen receiving gifts and having a feast with other prisoners.

Yadav took to Twitter to voice his concerns over the viral video of Pintu Tiwari celebrating his birthday inside the prison. He alleged that people in Bihar are losing their lives to crime, Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), floods and droughts, whereas the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is busy shielding corrupt officials. He also mentioned that people are living in fear under and the government is in negligence.

Double murder convict celebrates his birthday in jail

An FIR was lodged against the prisoner, Pintu Tiwari, for throwing his birthday party inside the prison on August 28 in violation of Prison Manual, 1894. Pintu Tiwari is a member of Santosh Jha gang who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of two engineers in Darbhanga after they refused to pay the ransom. Earlier, Pintu Tiwari was lodged at Bhagalpur jail but was later shifted to Sitamarhi jail. This issue has raised security concerns in the jail premises and the functioning of the prison staff. 

The jail authorities conducted a late-night raid on Saturday and seized around seven smartphones from the prisoner. According to ANI, Muzaffarpur Central Jail Superintendent Rajiv Kumar Singh said that seven guards were suspended in the connection with the incident. A five-member team has been constituted to probe the entire matter. State Director-General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey said, "I have talked to the jail authorities and an investigation has been ordered." The jail Inspector-general (IG) Mithilesh Mishra has ordered an inquiry into the incident and sought a report from the district and jail administration. He expressed his concerns over the presence of mobile phone inside the jail and said that it was a serious matter and will be investigated.
