Terror attack on Amarnath Yatris

At least seven Amarnath Yatris were killed and 19 others injured in a terrorist attack on a Yatra bus carrying 17 pilgrims in three attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

At least seven Amarnath Yatris were killed and 19 others injured in a terrorist attack on a Yatra bus carrying 17 pilgrims in three attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. Policemen have been reportedly injured in the attack. As per reports, the attack took place at 8:20 p.m. on Monday.

Following the attack, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Governor and briefed him about the situation. Following his interaction with the Governor, the Home Minister called up Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Sources say the troops of the 90th and 40th Battalion have been rushed to the spot of terror attack. The injured have been taken to Anantnag District hospital and those critically injured are being shifted to Srinagar. 

The Jammu and Kashmir police said the "bus was on its way to Jammu from Baltal and was not a part of the convoy." 

"Today evening terrorists initially attacked a police BP bunker at Botengoo. The fire was retaliated. There was no report of injuries. Thereafter the terrorists fired on a police naka near Khanabal. The fire was retaliated. A tourist bus was hit by bullets in which about 18 tourists were injured. Among them, six persons died while rest are being treated. The bus was on way to Jammu from Baltal and was not part of the convoy," it said.

'India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his prayers were with those injured in the attack and that "India will never get bogged down by such cowardly attacks and the evil designs of hate."

'Mehbooba Mufti issues a statement'

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed deep shock and anguish over the killing of Shri Amarnath Yatries in a militant attack in Anantnag this evening. The Chief Minister said that yatris were the esteemed guest of Kashmir and perpetrators of crime have done a death blow to the ethos and culture of the State.

Strongly condemning the attack, Chief Minister said that the time has come for every right thinking Kashmiri to rise against this macabre menace before it devours everybody around. "It is a gruesome attack not only on unsuspecting guests but a brazen attack on Kashmir and Kashmiriyat and all of us shall have to rise against this scourge of violence sooner the better," she said.

Chief Minister's  has directed the state administration to provide all possible security to the yatris and also give quality treatment to the injured yatris.

'President Pranab Mukherjee condemns the attack'

President Pranab Mukherjee took to twitter to condemn the attack on the  Amarnath Yatris said, 'Strongly condemn attack on Amarnath Yatris in J & K ; grieve the loss of innocent lives'
