To restore public faith, ensure crackdown on mafias: Noida DM tells police, admin

District Magistrate Brajesh Narayan Singh on Thursday directed the police and the law enforcement agencies to ensure action against mining, land, parking and liquor mafias active in Gautam Buddh Nagar to restore people's faith in the administration.

The directions were issued by Singh during a law and order review meeting, held at the Collectorate Auditorium in Greater Noida, with district police chief Ajay Pal Sharma in attendance, according to a statement. Other senior police and administrative officers also attended the meeting.

"For the people to believe in law and order, the administration and police department should conduct fair investigation so that punitive and stringent legal proceedings could be recommended against all types of mafias -- mining, parking, land liquor and those in the IT sector -- in the district," Singh said.

"The chief minister views Gautam Buddh Nagar as a window to Uttar Pradesh and so it is the additional responsibility of the administration and police here to raise the standard of law and order situation so that a positive message goes out about the district," he was quoted as saying in the statement issued by the district information office.

He also instructed the police to ensure immediate action in cases of heinous crimes and directed that an intensive campaign be run to identify and act against the "white-collar" mafia.

"An intensive campaign should be run to identify those mafias engaged in white-collar jobs and business and ensure action against them under the stringent Gangster Act or the Goonda Act," he said.

The district magistrate said the police and the administrative officials should jointly tour their respective areas and take cognisance of even minor incidents and ensure immediate action to control crime.

He told the officials that the mafias who have sold over 100 plots in flood-prone areas of the district have been identified and action against them under the Gangster Act has already been proposed.

Singh also directed all officers to especially ensure action in cases related to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the crimes against women.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma directed all officials, in-charges of various police stations and the circle officers to step up action. He asked the officers to speed up probe and when required, recommend action against criminals under the Gangster Act, or the Goonda Act, or the National Security Act (NSA) in order to check crime in the district
