Soon after the news broke, AAP backtracked saying the resolution was never passed. AAP also said that they only passed a resolution on calling the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots a genocide.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said:

"We are not saying that the Bharat Ratna given to Rajiv Gandhi should be returned. Those whose hands are red with the blood of 1984 and 2002 should not do this kind of politics. Yes, it was a proposal by a member but it was never passed a resolution. It was not expunged because it was not brought up in the assembly," he said.

MLA Alka Lamba had even said that she was being coerced to follow the party line to support the resolution on demanding the revocation of the ban. She even said that she would resign if the party asked her to.

Revealing that she received official documents wherein proposal to take away former PM Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna was clearly stated, Alka Lamba later professed that she did not know why AAP spokesperson

The party reacted saying that the reports which claimed that its MLA Alka Lamba was asked to resign over differences of opinion on the issue.
