A day after Pakistan targeted Indian civilians in its cross-border firing, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has batted for talks with the neighbouring nation to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Speaking to reporters, Yechury demanded that the government tell the people of the country what their policy towards Pakistan is, and also, state their stand and policy for Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that a lack of policy was responsible for innocent killings as was witnessed yesterday, referring to the Pakistan Army's dastardly killing of five persons, including children, in its cease-fire violation along the LoC in J&K's Poonch.

"Sometimes they say we will talk, sometime they will not talk", Yechury said, giving examples of India and Pakistan's NSAs and other personnel talking in neutral locations, adding there should be composite dialogue with Pakistan. He didn't make it clear whether he was referring to the Composite Dialogue framework agreed between India and Pakistan. He said that there are more avenues available than just law and order.

The Narendra Modi-led government has repeatedly made clear that it will not enter into any dialogue over Kashmir with Pakistan till the latter continues to harbour and launch terror into India.

"We want a solution. Solution will not be possible if you don't involve political dialogue", Yechury said further

Also on Monday, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister issued a series of controversial statements while batting for Pakistan. She said that before advising Pakistan she will appeal to Narendra Modi:

"If in my hands, I would have stopped this bloodbath. I have told Modi ji, that India is like an elder brother and Pakistan is it's younger brother, We only have to understand".
