Arun Jaitley a 'think tank', this is a personal loss: Sumitra Mahajan

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan paid heartfelt tribute to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley as he passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Former Finance Minister & BJP Lawmaker Arun Jaitley has passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, after being admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi on August 9. The hospital issued a statement recently announcing that  Arun Jaitley took his last breath at 12:07 pm. Several celebrities and political leaders have come forward to mourn the loss. Many of them have taken to social media to extend condolences.

Sumitra Mahajan pays heartfelt tribute as Arun Jaitley passes away

Recently, Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan paid heartfelt tribute to Arun Jaitley. In a recent Twitter post, she hailed the veteran political leader as a 'think tank' who used to give arguments and eloquent speeches.

In a consecutive post, Sumitra Mahajan remembered late EAM Sushma Swaraj and talked about how the Bharatiya Janata Party has lost two of its prominent leaders in a short interval of time. She hailed both Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley as 'strong, eloquent, and logical' and termed their demise as a 'personal loss'.

Arun Jaitley held several important portfolios

Arun Jaitley is best known for having served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs in the first Narendra Modi government has also held portfolios of Defence and Information and Broadcasting. It was Arun Jaitley who rolled out the GST in 2017 which saw India becoming a unified market for goods and services for the first time, and was also the first chairman of the GST council, being widely credited for forging consensus leading to the Constitutional amendment that eventually passed the GST Bill.

Arun Jaitley opted out of the second Narendra Modi government, having gone to the US for two spells of treatment for a medical ailment in 2018-19. He has, however, regularly taken to Facebook and Twitter to pen blogs on various significant issues in the country.
