BIMSTEC member states' leaders likely set to attend PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony on May 30: Sources

Leaders from the member states of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) namely Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand , Nepal and Bhutan are reportedly set to attend PM-elect Modi's swearing-in ceremony

Adding to the already hefty list of attendees of PM-elect Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony on May 30, leaders from the member states of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) namely Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand , Nepal and Bhutan are reportedly set to attend after PM-elect Modi had allegedly extended an invitation to the ceremony which will be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on Thursday. The president of Kyrgyzstan, Sooronbay Jeenbekov too has been extended an invitation for the ceremony.

On a national front, earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister too had expressed his inclination to attend the PM-elect's swearing-in ceremony, if and when he receives an invitation for it.

Speaking to media, the JD(S) leader said, "Wait for 2-3 days. If I receive an invitation, I will attend the ceremony."

The Karnataka Chief Minister is one of the many state heads and party leaders from across the aisle, who have been invited to attend the ceremony.

In a scoop by Republic Media Network, Superstar Rajinikanth and actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan have reportedly been invited for the swearing-in of Narendra Modi for the second term.

While Rajinikanth had announced that he will decide about the name of his party after May 23 and will contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, Kamal Hassan's Makkal Nidhi Maiam (MNM) contested the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections 2019 but won no seats.

Apart from the two superstars-turned-politicians, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-elect Jagan Mohan Reddy have also reportedly been invited for the ceremony.

On Saturday, Prime Minister-elect Modi was appointed prime minister by President Ram Nath Kovind after he was unanimously elected NDA parliamentary party leader at a meeting in which he asked coalition members to work without discrimination, stressing on the need to win the trust of minorities. In the general election, he led the BJP-led NDA to a landslide victory with the alliance winning 353 seats, including an unprecedented 303 by the BJP.
