Congress leader from Gujarat Hardik Patel has charged at the BJP over P Chidambaram's arrest by CBI on Wednesday saying that the move was taken as the central agencies acted as puppets of the government and accused the Modi-led Centre of vendetta politics."The arrest of senior Congress leader and former Home and Finance Minister P Chidambaram ji is a testimony to the Modi government's revenge politics and misuse of investigative agencies. Central agencies like CBI and ED should take care of their credibility before becoming a puppet. Condemnable," Hardik Patel said in a tweet.

Son Karti Chidambaram bemoans 'vendetta politics'

"This is a totally politically motivated witchhunt. It has been done only to tarnish the image of Congress party and to try to silence the most vehement critic of this government. My father has been the most vehement, articulate and vocal critic of this government. This has been done to silence him. It has no legal basis and it is a trumped-up charge," he said.

P Chidambaram questioned by CBI

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram who was arrested in the INX media case on Wednesday was questioned by the CBI from 10.00 am onwards on Thursday, say sources. The interrogation is being led by Dy SP R Parthasarthy, sources added. The questioning will be about the INX Media case, the sources said. P Chidambaram will be confronted with the FIPB files. During March-May 2007, P Chidambaram as Union Finance Minister was aware that FIPB only gave approval of 4.61 crore FDI to INX media, but they managed to illegally bring Rs 335 crore. He will be quizzed regarding Indrani Mukerjea's statement which reads that once FIPB rejected INX media request to bring FDI, the couple (Indrani and Peter) allegedly met him at north block and subsequently Karti Chidambaram in a five-star hotel.
