Chief Secretary Assault Case: Patiala House Court summons Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia along with 11 other AAP MLAs

The Patiala House Court has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia along with 11 other AAP MLAs in connection with the alleged assault case on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash. They will appear before the court on October 25, 2018. The Aam Aadmi Party engulfed in an unprecedented controversy after Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash, the topmost bureaucrat in the state, allegedly being slapped at a meeting at Delhi Chief Minister's residence.

Earlier on Saturday, Delhi's Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash moved an application in the Patiala House Court appealing for a change in the prosecutor in the alleged assault case he filed earlier this year against Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) leaders. Anshu Prakash said he needs a special public prosecutor in the case. On February 20, he had lodged a police complaint and alleged that he was manhandled at the Delhi Chief Minister's residence by two AAP legislators at Kejriwal's residence, where he had been called to discuss Aadhaar-related problems.​​​​​​​

Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal were arrested the next day and were sent to a 14-day judicial custody, which was further extended by 14 days. The two AAP leaders were later granted bail by the Delhi High Court. 

On August 13, the Delhi Police named Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and 11 AAP MLAs in the 1300-page charge sheet that was filed under Sections 186, 323, 332, 342, 353, 504, 506(ii), 120B, 109, 114, 149, 34 and 36 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Aam Aadmi Party issued a statement rubbishing the allegations by the Chief Secretary as ludicrous and baseless. The party statement claimed that the Chief Secretary had been non-compliant and had even used bad language at a meeting over '2.5 lakh families being deprived of rations due to faulty implementation of Aadhaar' and not over a TV blitzkrieg that Kejriwal’s government wanted to undertake. AAP also blamed the BJP for the entire affair, saying the chief secretary was acting at the party's behest.
