Cong asks people to delete NaMo app but its own app gets taken down; party offers explanation as BJP has field day

Following union minister Smriti Irani launching an attack at the Congress over its campaign to get people to delete the Narendra Modi app, the Congress has given an explanation as to why their own app is no longer available.

A massive digital-war has broken out over the Indian National Congress' app, which is no longer available for download on the app stores.

Following union minister Smriti Irani launching an attack at the Congress over its campaign to get people to delete the Narendra Modi app, the Congress has given an explanation as to why their own app is no longer available.

The Congress party has tweeted via its official handle:

The WithINC app is a membership app & has not been in use for over 5 months since we moved membership to http://www.inc.in Β from 16th Nov 2017.Β 
The URL (http://membership.inc.in ) quoted by the media is the defunct URL from the app. The actual membership URL can be seen below

It has added the following:

WithINC app was being used for Social Media updates alone since transitioning the membership to the website. This morning we were forced to remove the app from the Playstore as the wrong URL was being circulated & people were being misled.

Shortly before that, Smriti Irani had tweeted:
