In a shocker from Chitradurga, a Congress MLA, KC Veerendra was caught on camera instructing students of a law college to beat up the hostel warden for supplying them with rotten and stale food. Congress MLA from Chitradurga KC Veerendra was heard saying in the viral video, "If this happens again, lock up the warden in the room and beat him up if he feeds you rotten vegetables. Don't worry I'm there, this is too much. Take all the worms from the rotten vegetables and feed him the same. Then beat him up, all this will be rectified after that. This is not right."

Hostel students protest

The hostel students comprising of law and B.Ed. students at the SC/ST law hostel were protesting since August 1 demanding the government's intervention in the lack of facilities and rotten food allegedly provided at the hostel.

The enraged students had warned the district administration of intensifying the protests if their demands were not met. A law student speaking to Republic, on the condition of anonymity, said, "The warden has made our lives difficult by imposing rules and curfew which cannot be followed because we are law students and sometime cases that we have taken up on a test basis will have follow-up at odd hours. Secondly the food that is being supplied since the last one year is of substandard quality. The vegetables in the sambar is rotten and we can see worms in them. This makes it impossible for us to eat it, despite several requests by us to the warden he doesn't seem to listen to us. We thank the MLA for intervening and he has promised that action will be taken against the warden."

Demands made by hostel students

1) Provide good and quality food three times a day

2) Procure fresh vegetables from the market instead of buying it once in a week from the regular vendor

3) Don't impose curfew hours for final year students as they have cases to follow-up

BJP defends students, slams Congress MLA for instigating them

The saffron party has been quick to defend the students and have said that it is the responsibility of the concerned administration to see the demands but also said that it was wrong on the party of MLA to instigate them against the warden. BJP MLC Tejasvini speaking to Republic said that "MLA is a responsible individual and we appreciate him for taking a stand but instigating students to lock up the warden and beat him up, feed rotten food is not acceptable. He should exercise caution in what he speaks."
