The Supreme Court, on February 14, delivered a split verdict in the case pertaining to the Delhi government's powers to appoint and transfer civil servants, while hearing a batch of petitions by AAP government against Delhi High Court order which had held that the L-G's was the administrative head of the national capital. Following the Supreme Court verdict in the matter, AAP leader Sanjay Singh targeted the top court, saying that the 'court lost all its dignity'.
Retaliating to the AAP MP's comments, BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy slammed Sanjay Singh and called his comments as 'contempt of the top court' .
"It's a contempt of Supreme Court. They consider Supreme Court as god and that the god has not been able to deliver justice. These are all bringing the administration of justice into contempt and therefore he should be haled in Supreme Court and explain what does he mean. We have a democratic system, we got to protect it. Punishment must be given for contempt of Supreme court," Dr Swamy said speaking to Republic TV on AAP's controversial comments against the Supreme Court.
On Thursday, a division of bench comprising of justice AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan, however, differed on whether the L-G or Delhi government has control over 'services' which includes transfer and posting of bureaucrats in the national capital.
In the light of the judgment, AAP leader Sanjay Singh posted a tweet on social media, targeting the top court saying that it has failed to deliver justice.
"Has the Supreme Court lost all its dignity? 'Justice delayed is justice denied' The public respects the judge as it respects God but God has failed to deliver justice," he said in the tweet.
Addressing a press conference after the SC's judgment on division of powers, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that SC's verdict went against democracy and the Constitution.
