Amid controversies over Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu's visit to Pakistan, a Punjab minister on Saturday has sought his resignation from the state cabinet for his remark on Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. A cabinet meeting will be held on December 3, 2018 regarding the same.

Talking to media, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said:

"I am not angry with Sidhu. Rahul Gandhi is the Captain of all of us but Punjab, CM Captain Amarindar Singh is also the Captain. He is crossing the Laxman Rekha. This is about his morality. He should leave the cabinet. He is extra ordinary person. I am asking him to control his language and it is is my request. It's upto him to to resign or not.  I have not spoken to Amarindar ji and This is my personal view. Rahul ji is busy in rallies. Gopal chawla is not small issue. Sidhu ji should apologize or resign on his moral duty."

Another leader Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria also conveyed a similar message when he said:

"In state we all are working under the leadership of Capt. Amrinder Singh. He is our Captain. I don't know with what intention he said this. It might be his personal thought but the way he said: Kaun captain kaisa captain ye bahut galat baat hai. Bajwa ji is right in saying if he doesn't consider Capt. Amrinder as his leader. He should quit the party".

The resignation demand came even as Sidhu backtracked on his claim in Hyderabad that he attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Pakistan for the Kartarpur corridor after Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked him to go.

Mr Sidhu, on Friday, had said that it was Congress President Rahul Gandhi who sent him there for attending the foundation laying ceremony of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and that he was his "Captain".

Hours after claiming that, Sidhu on Saturday retracted his statement saying he went there on a personal invite by Pakistan PM Imran Khan.

On Friday, Sidhu had said Gandhi was his `captain’, which was seen as an indirect attack at Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, a former captain in the Army.
