In his second tweet, Dr Jaishankar stated that the team of Ministry of External Affairs will continue to serve the people 24/7, adding that he is happy to lead the efforts with his colleague MoS V. Muraleedharan, who  has been appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs under his charge.

After being appointed as MEA on Friday, Dr S Jaishankar assumed the office at the South Block, along with V. Muraleedharan.

A Padma Shri awardee by President Ram Nath Kovind, Jaishankar has served as foreign secretary in January 2015, after PM Modi dismissed the foreign secretary Sujatha Singh. He has been the country's longest-serving foreign secretary in four decades and helped craft much of PM Modi's foreign policy.

He has taken over former MEA Sushma Swaraj, who served the ministry during the first Modi tenure.
