Continuing his effort to bring together an United Front, much like that in 1996, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu met DMK chief MK Stalin on Friday, wherein the two pledged working together along with other regional parties to take on PM Modi and BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
Naidu, who has already met the likes of Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in the past few days, reiterated the fact that no leader has yet been chosen as the face for PM while also mentioning that he is just a 'facilitator, not a face'.
When asked by the media as to who will spearhead the United Front, the AP CM said, "I am bringing everybody to a single platform. From there, they we decide how to go further," before adding that "I am not a face, I am only a facilitator."
For a second straight day, Naidu spoke of the need for all the regional parties and Congress to come together and fight against the ruling government. On Thursday, he had met former PM HD Deve Gowda and his son, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.
The trio held a meeting at Deve Gowda's residence, following which they told media that a repeat of 1996 could very well be on the cards. Pointing to the successful coalition of Congress and JD(S) in Karnataka, the three senior political statesmen hit out at BJP, accusing the party of failing to complete the promises of 2014.
"NDA rule from last four years, two months under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi saab created so many problems including destabilising certain Constitution-created institutions. Now it is the responsibility of all secular parties including Congress and to come together to replace the NDA government," Gowda said.
The former CM of the state also hailed Naidu for his effort to bring all the opposition parties together in order to fight BJP. "CM Chandrababu Naiduji took the lead and met Rahul Gandhi, and met other regional leaders like Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, DMK leader MK Stalin. He has contacted me several times. He is doing his best to remove NDA government, to the consolidate all secular parties in order to end NDA rule in 2019," he added.
