The political fight between the Shiv Sena and BJP has reached a point from where it is now very difficult to say whether the relationship between the two parties will sweeten. As the 5-year term of the Devendra Fadnavis-led government is coming to an end, the Shiv Sena has intensified its attack against the policies of the state & central governments.

Recently, in his Pandharpur rally, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had echoed the “Chowkidaar Chor Hai” ( watchman is a thief) attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was the first time that Uddhav Thackeray had hurled this particular attack -- it was coined by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and intensively used during the recent election campaign of 5 states. Even though the Supreme Court has given a clean chit to the central government in the Rafale deal, the Congress is not ready to bow down, reiterating its now standard demand when all appropriate recourse is exhausted -- seek a parliamentary panel referral.

Even after the remark against the Prime Minister, BJP had remained ambivalent to the provocation, with attempts to get a response from top party leaders seemingly failing as nobody spoke either against Uddhav Thackeray or the Shiv Sena.  But now, for the first time, Devendra Fadnavis has given a stern reply.

In response to Republic TV's question, Devendra Fadnavis said, “We do not give much weight to the allegations of Shiv Sena. We all know what our Prime Minister is. He is a man who has been giving each and every second of his life for the country”. Fadnavis proceeded to compare Narendra Modi with the Sun and said: “If you spit at the Sun then it will fall back on you”.

Not stopping there, Fadnavis launched a scathing attack against Uddhav Thackeray and said “in politics, you need to speak at the appropriate time and I will definitely answer them, but at the right time, just wait till that moment.

BJP wants to enter into an alliance with the Shiv Sena for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The high command of the BJP has clearly told state party leaders to not to respond to the Shiv Sena’s allegations till the talks for the alliance do not get over. That’s the reason all the BJP leaders were not speaking against the Sena but now with the ‘Chowkidaar Chor Hai’ allegation, Sena has crossed the proverbial ‘Laxman-Rekha’ and the BJP feels that this is the right time to teach them a lesson.
