BJP Karnataka chief BS Yeddyurappa has written to the party's president Amit Shah over Tuesday's dramatic developments in Karnataka where the HD Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JDS government has fallen after losing a trust vote.

In his letter, Yeddyurappa, who was Kumaraswamy's immediate predecessor (though for a very short time) thanks Shah and other BJP leaders for their support and says he's elated that the Kumaraswamy government's trust motion has been defeated, 'paving the way for our party's government in Karnataka'.

He adds that all the party's 105 MLAs stood together like a rock in the weeks of drama following the Congress-JDS MLAs first resigning and thereby triggering the crisis.

Here is the letter:

Immediately after the Kumaraswamy government was defeated in the 223-member assembly, managing just 99 votes versus the BJP's 105 with 3 MLAs abstaining and 15 rebels not voting, Yeddyurappa had made his intent clear and said:

"I want to assure the people of Karnataka that a new era of development will start now onwards. Our farmers are suffering like anything. In coming days we'll assure the people of Karnataka and farmers, we'll give more importance to them. We'll take appropriate decisions as early as possible."

"It is the victory of the democracy," Yeddyurappa had said, adding,"People were fed up with the Kumaraswamy government."
