"Lok Sabha will benefit from Birla's experience": Read Arun Jaitley's wishes to Om Birla on being elected Speaker

Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley congratulated the newly elected speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla on 19 June. Om Birla was unanimously elected as speaker of the lower house, following NDA's nomination of his name supported by other parties including the YSRCP, AIADMK, TDP and Congress among the other parties.

Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley congratulated the newly-elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, on Wednesday. Om Birla was unanimously elected as Speaker of the lower house, following NDA's nomination of his name being supported by other parties including the YSRCP, AIADMK, TDP and even the Congress, among others. 

Om Birla is a two-time MP from Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan and has been around in the legislative circles for the past 25 years. Taking to Twitter, Jaitely congratulated him on his success in the Speaker election. He said that the Lok Sabha will be benefited by the experience of Birla, as he ended his tweet by conveying his wishes to the new Speaker on the "proud assignment". Read the tweet here:

Birla succeeded eight-term MP Sumitra Mahajan as the Speaker, a post traditionally held by senior MPs.

Starting his political journey as a student leader, the 57-year-old has also been elected to the Rajasthan assembly for three consecutive terms in 2003, 2008 and 2013.

A conscientious parliamentarian, Om Birla has registered a 86% average attendance in the House, has asked 671 questions, participated in 163 debates and introduced six private member's bills during the 16th Lok Sabha.

For 12 years since 1991, Om Birla was a key leader in Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha as president at the state level first and then the vice-president at the national level. Om Birla is a member of the Standing Committee on Energy in Parliament, member of Committee on Petitions and Consultative Committee for Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
