Mamata Banerjee says 'BJP does not worship Ram, it worships Ravan'

Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that BJP does not worship Lord Ram but worships Ravan. She said that the party is dividing people in the name of religion. She further said that the party sells religion for votes. She made the statements while addressing a public meeting in Jamboni in Jhargram in West Bengal.

"Always remember, they worship Ravan. They do not worship Ram. That is just a show off. That is just to show the power of votes. That is burning the country. That is creating riots. That is just a propaganda. That is just to create rift between you people," she said.

The TMC chief's comment comes a day after Uddhav Thackeray addressed a rally in Ayodhya and Mohan Bhagwat's speech in Nagpur about the Ram Mandir issue. The VHP also held a marathon 'Dharam Sabha' for discussing construction of the Temple on Sunday.

"They can't even feed the people and they are talking about Mandir. After building one temple they are chanting 'Jai Shree Ram'. But who do we pray to? Maa durga. Who is Maa Durga? Lord Ram worshipped her. So we should worship Lord Ram or Maa Durga?

Their leaders chant 'Jai Shree Ram' so our leaders will chant 'Maa Durga'. But who worshipped Maa Durga? It was Lord Ram. He worshipped her to defeat Ravan.

But what should we do? We worship Maa Durga, we worship Ganapati, we celebrate Karam festival, we celebrate Hul festival. We respect all religions, unlike them. For them morning is Ram. Evening is Bam, and while eating dinner it is boomerang. We do not do this. The tribal brothers and sisters follow their culture, Urdu speaking people follow their own culture, Muslims follow their own culture, Christians follow their own culture. Hindus follow their culture. But we don't divide people and fill our stomach. Can anybody sell their mother and eat? For us the house deity is our mother. They sell religion and feed their stomach and burn the country. Always remember, they worship Ravan. They do not worship Ram. That is just a show off. That is just to show the power of votes. That is burning the country. That is creating riots. That is just a propaganda. That is just to create rift between you people."
