Modi Cabinet 2.0: All you need to know about four-time MP and young leader from Himachal Pradesh Anurag Thakur who has been inducted as Minister of State

Narendra Modi has taken the oath-of-office as the Prime Minister of the country for the second time, at the grand swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday in which a number of other NDA leaders also took oath as ministers.

Narendra Modi has taken the oath-of-office as the Prime Minister of the country for the second time, at the grand swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday in which a number of other NDA leaders also took oath as ministers. Among the new faces who made it to the ministerial positions is former BJP's Himachal Pradesh unit president Anurag Thakur. On May 30, he took the oath of for the Minister of State in the Modi's Cabinet 2.0.

He is the son of former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal. Here's all you need to know about this young turk from Himachal Pradesh. 

  • Thakur has won from the Hamirpur constituency consecutively for the fourth time. In Lok Sabha elections 2019, he defeated Ram Lal Thakur by a margin of four lakh votes. His vote share was also as massive as 69.04 percent.  He faced stiff competition from the Congress’ Ram Lal Thakur, former athlete and five-time legislator in the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. 
     
  • He had been a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president. During his term as president, he had led a march from Kolkata to Srinagar under the banner of Rashtriya Ekta Yatra. The aim of the Yatra was to unfurl the national flag at Lal Chowk on 26 January 2011.
     
  • Thakur hails from Samirpur village in the Hamirpur district and was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in the by-election in May 2008. 
     
  • 44 year old was a president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from May 2016 - February 2017. The Supreme Court had ordered his ouster after controversy over Lodha reforms.
     
  • He also received the Best Young Parliamentarian Award in 2011. He had also been Himachal Pradesh BJP state president.

Taking to Twitter, he said that he is honoured to serve as a part of Council of Ministers 

He took the oath to serve the nation as Minister of State under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The oath read as:

"I, Anurag Thakur, do swear in the name of God (or, solemnly affirm) that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties as a Minister for the Union and that I will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will."

The oath of secrecy reads:

"I, Anurag Thakur, do swear in the name of God (or, solemnly affirm) that I will not directly or indirectly communicate or reveal to any person or persons any matter which shall be brought under my consideration or shall become known to me as a Minister for the Union except as may be required for the due discharge of my duties as such Minister".
