Modi Cabinet 2.0: Which NDA ally got what? Here's the party-wise break-up of the portfolio list

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his 58 Council of Ministers took an oath, the allocation of portfolios have put on public domain to give a comprehensive view of the Cabinet composition of the NDA government.

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 58 other ministers took the oath-of-office in a mega-ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Ram Nath Kovind has announced the list of ministries on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

After weaving history by winning a massive mandate of 353 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, 25 MPs took oath as Cabinet Ministers, 9 for Independent Charge and 24 for Ministers of State. Out of which, 4 leaders of the NDA were chosen.

Here is the party-wise allotment in the Council of Ministers among the NDA members: 

  • Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Akali Dal)-

Minister of Food Processing Industries

  • Ramvilas Paswan (LJP)-

Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution

  • Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena)-

Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise

  • Ramdas Athawale (RPIA)- 

Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment

Comparison to 2014: 

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has been retained by BJP's ally Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal 

Ramvilas Paswan held his Cabinet Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the Modi 2.0 government. He has also been a Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mines, Communications and Information Technology and Railways. 

Shiv Sena's South Mumbai MP Arvind Sawant became the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises in the Cabinet, the Ministry that was held by Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete during PM Modi's first tenure. Similar to the previous tenure, Shiv Sena will have one leader in the Cabinet 2.0.

Ramdas Athawale, a popular representative of the Dalit community, retained his former Cabinet- Ministry of State for Social Justice and Empowerment under the charge of BJP's Thawar Chand Gehlot. 

In 2019, NDA comprised of 18 members with BJP being the only national party, out of which, four leaders found a spot in the Council of Ministers- 

BJP was in a pre-poll alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab. As per the seat-sharing formula, SAD fielded 10 candidates and BJP contested 3 seats out of which the alliance only won 4 seats. 

BJP in alliance with JD(U) and LJP won 39 out of 40 seats, out of which Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP won all six seats it contested. 

In Maharashtra, the saffron BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won 42 out of the 48 seats, wherein BJP won 23 and Shiv Sena 18 seats.

Athawale joined hands with BJP-Shiv Sena alliance after breaking up with the Congress-NCP alliance in 2009 to contest the BMC elections, and then later Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
