Ahead of the Assembly polls, which will be held in 2019, Republic TV, in association with CVoter, has come with the National Approval Ratings to bring forward the mood of the nation in the present time. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power in the centre, as well as 21 states, either alone or through a coalition of NDA.

Assam is a very interesting state to look out for in the battle of 2019. BJP-led NDA have the majority numbers in the state, and are expected to only increase on it.

If the National Approval Ratings are to go by, NDA, which won 8 seats in 2014, will add one more to their name, making it 9 seats. Congress will also be adding onto their number, predicted to win 4 seats.

In 2014, BJP won 7 seats, and with the support of BPF, saw NDA having 8 seats. But this time around, it is expected to add to it with the support of AGP, who will one. As for Congress, it is expected to win 4, an increase of one seat from their number in 2014. The biggest loser expected from the 2019 elections is AIUDF, who had won three seats in 2014, but will fall down to a mere seat next year.

As for vote share, NDA had 45.1% in 2014, which will just go up to 45.4%, a 0.3% increase. Congress will be the biggest winner in terms of vote share. They are expected to win 40.3% of votes, a 9% increase from their previous performance. And just like in seats, AIUDF will lose big in vote share, with them winning a mere 3.4%.

  • Assam has 14 key constituencies up for grabs and while the BJP swept 7 of them in 2014, the projection is that, the NDA will rise to 9 in the state and the increase in one seat will be pegged on the BJP increasing its tally 1 at a party level.  Meanwhile, the BJPs projected vote-share is projected to inch only marginally by 0.3%.

(The results of 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
