Ahead of the Assembly polls, which will be held in 2019, Republic TV, in association with CVoter, has come with the National Approval Ratings to bring forward the mood of the nation in the present time. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power in the centre, as well as 21 states, either alone or through a coalition of NDA.

Jharkhand, with 14 seats, is expected to be closely fought affair between NDA and UPA, though the former has the clear edge.

In 2014, BJP won 12 seats and clearly proved they were the favorite in the state, with 40.1% vote share. Congress drew blank, but their ally JMM made sure that UPA ended with 2 seats. Others had a 23.6% vote share, but did not win any seat.

Jharkhand looks set to be an eye opener for BJP, as they are expected to lose out 4 seats, meaning they will have to settle with 8 seats. Though surprisingly, their vote share will go up to 42.3%.

UPA are the biggest beneficiary of the BJP's loss. JMM will gain two votes to win 4, while Congress will open their tally to make sure UPA ends with 5. The Others will not win any seat, and will also see their vote share fall to 12%.

  • There are 14 seats in the offing in Jharkhand. While the BJP swept 12 out of 14 of them in 2014, there is slated a very sharp decline in the BJP’s fortunes this time round with a loss of 4 seats as of today-- taking the BJP tally to 8. It would still mean the BJP gets the majority votes and does so on its own as the largest player in the traditionally regional party dominated state.

  • These projections also mean that the BJP will net a majority tally in Jharkhand despite 10 years of Jharkhand picking BJP for the general election-- which gives you a strong picture of confidence

(The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
