Piyush Goyal sarcastically calls Mallikarjun Kharge 'a man of amazing consistency' on his dissent over the sacking of CBI chief Alok Verma

Responding to the sacking note of Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has sarcastically called the Congress leader 'a man of amazing consistency'. Drawing attention to the two-minds of Congress party.

Responding to the note of dissent by Mallikarjun Kharge following the sacking of CBI chief Alok Verma, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has sarcastically called the Congress leader 'a man of amazing consistency'. Drawing attention to the two-minds of Congress party. 

In a tweet, Goyal reiterated the stand of Congress party between the on-going internal war between then CBI chiefs Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana in October 

He said, "When Shri Alok Verma was appointed CBI chief by the selection committee, he dissented. Now, when Shri Alok Verma has been removed by the same Selection Committee, he has dissented."

After the selection panel headed by PM Narendra Modi sacked Alok Verma as the CBI chief on Thursday, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has given a six-page long dissent note on it.  He was a  part of the three-member selection panel.

In the note, he has listed the allegations against Alok Verma vis-a-vis the CVC findings. He had demanded that not only Verma be reinstated by the panel but also that he should be given extra 77 days long tenure. 

He also demanded an independent investigation into his removal based on the earlier order which was passed on October 23.

The key allegations against Alok Verma based on the CVC report are:

  1. He received kickbacks of Rs 2 crores, and also found evidence against him in other cases.
  2. He went slow on the probe in the IRCTC case against RJD chief Lalu Yadav and did not conduct raids at his residence, and removed a name from the FIR of the case
  3. The non-production of record, and fabrication of record in cases by Verma
  4. Induction of officers of doubtful integrity into CBI by him
  5. Allegations over the functioning and discharge of his duties as the CBI boss
