Former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi has penned an astonishing letter to current CM Nitish Kumar regarding the security detail at her residence.

Writing under her personal letterhead, Rabri Devi has sought to return the security assigned to her in Patna.

She writes about how security commandos were placed at her and Lalu Prasad's residence in 2005 on account of them being former chief ministers of the state. Security was also placed at seven posts in the compound.

However, when Lalu Prasad was taken to jail on December 23, 2017, most of the security detail was removed, she writes, adding that only a token security detail remained. On Tuesday night, more security was removed, as a result of which she says that her family is unprotected.

Following this, she's returning what security remains, as well as all the vehicles that are assigned to her.

If anything happens to her or her family, the home ministry and state home ministry will be responsible, she says, adding that the people of Bihar and party workers will protect her.

Here's the letter:

The letter comes just a day after the CBI conducted searches at Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad's residence in connection with a Railways hotel tender case, which Nitish Kumar had cited as being a reason for his JDU breaking away from the 'mahagathbandhan'. Their son, and former deputy chief minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav was also questioned regarding the alleged irregularities in awarding contracts for the upkeep of IRCTC Hotels in Puri and Ranchi.

Following the raids, the Bihar government had announced to withdraw 32 security personnel who were posted at the Lalu-Rabri Devi residence.Tejashwi has also alleged that Nitish Kumar had sent him a notice to vacate the government residence he is presently occupying.

Lalu Prasad, meanwhile, continues to be lodged in AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi where he was shifted for treatment after falling ill at the Birsa Munda Jail where he was lodged following conviction and sentencing in multiple Fodder scam cases.
