As per the sources, top Congress brass is unhappy with Rahul Gandhi's decision. More resignations, this time from the bigwig leaders from the top are expected in order to prevent Gandhi from resigning as Congress president, say sources.

As per the sources, the senior leaders of the party believe that a wrong message is being to Congress cadres on the ground. 

The sources also say that a faction in the party are divided about the likelihood of Gandhi loyalist Motilal Vohra taking over as the interim party president. One faction is unhappy about the possibility of Vohra taking over as the party chief. Another faction is not happy with Gandhi stepping down and running away from the leadership of the party.

Forty-one days after the Lok Sabha drubbing, Rahul Gandhi quit as the party chief on Wednesday. In a tweet, Gandhi posted his resignation letter and said he takes responsibility for the loss of the Congress in the 2019 general elections. He reasoned in his resignation saying that "accountability is critical for the future growth of the party"


Meanwhile, as per sources, Gandhi loyalists and Congress old-timers such as Ashok Gehlot and Sushil Kumar Shinde are being considered for the top post in the party. A faction in the party wants young guns like Sachin Pilot to lead the Congress, the sources added. While Pilot has been made the offer, he is more keen to focus on regional politics in Rajasthan, the sources said.
